Code And Pattern

How can lines be arranged to save and convey abstract information? Nearly all existing writing systems function according to similar patterns consisting of a fixed set of characters, each representing a sound. This has been the cultural concept of writing in almost all human societies – and how we perceive words, written language and typography.

Code and Pattern is a playful experiment to tackle different perspectives on writing, figuring out how lines, dots or simple geometric structures can be arranged in logical patterns to carry information.

This approach can lead to practical solutions like writing systems that save ink,
space, time in hand writing or that are particularly easy to learn. But it may also
just open a new view on the aesthetics of words and language.
