Conversations with Eliza

These are a series of digital artworks created with the help of Artificial Intelligence. A machine learning model trained to create images in the styles of famous painters was used to produce these artworks.

While an AI can be trained to imitate or recreate style/techniques, on its own, it’s not capable of creating conceptual art (at least not yet). But the machine and human collaboration make it possible. Instead of thinking of AI replacing human creativity, I’m interested in exploring ways AI can be used as a tool to enhance the creative process.

ELIZA is an early natural language processing computer program created in the 1960s at the MIT Artificial Intelligence Lab. My first encounter with ELIZA was in the early 2000s. I was so surprised and curious about the fact that I could chat with the computer and would spend countless hours chatting with Eliza. Little did I know back then how AI would revolutionize the future, of everything. I feel Eliza would be happy to know what I am able to create with the help of her successors.
